## Institutional Structure

Kansas Ultrarunners is a historical resource of the Kansas Ultrarunning Historical Foundation, a Kansas not-for-profit corporation. The Foundation has applied for recognition as a 501(c)(3) public charity; that application is currently pending with the Internal Revenue Service.

## Purpose

Kansas Ultrarunners is being developed as a structured registry of people connected to Kansas ultrarunning.

The project is intended to document historical and current Kansas ultrarunners, runners born in Kansas, runners based in Kansas during meaningful portions of their ultrarunning careers, and runners with substantial documented connections to Kansas ultrarunning.

## Kansas Affiliation Categories

Kansas-born means the runner was born within the state of Kansas. Kansas-based means the runner lived in Kansas during a meaningful portion of an ultrarunning career. Kansas-connected means the runner has a substantial documented relationship to Kansas ultrarunning through participation, performance, history, contribution, or another meaningful connection.

## Affiliation vs. Verification

Kansas affiliation and evidence status are separate concepts. Affiliation describes the runner's relationship to Kansas ultrarunning. Evidence status describes how strongly a specific claim is supported. Do not treat documented and independently verified as interchangeable.

## Birthplace Verification

Kansas Ultrarunners does not need to collect or store birth certificates or similar sensitive identity documents. If a stronger Verified Kansas-born designation is launched, the intended model is independent third-party verification. The registry should receive only the minimum verification outcome required to support the designation. No official third-party identity-verification provider has been selected yet.

## Sources

Possible source types include authorized race-result datasets, published ultramarathon results, historical race records, publicly documented results, runner-submitted corrections, and independent verification outcomes.

Ultrarunning Magazine and UltraSignup are possible future data sources if authorized access or a permitted data export is obtained. Do not state or imply that either organization has already provided data or entered a partnership unless formally confirmed.

## Future Profile Functions

Possible future functions include claim or correct a profile, submit missing race history, nominate a runner, verify Kansas birthplace, document Kansas residency, or document a Kansas ultrarunning connection. These are planned directions, not active features unless explicitly announced.
